I used to hand sew clothes for my teenage daughters using the Enid Gilchrist pattern book. I starting using a sewing machine when I was about 16 and wanted to make my own clothes. I loved to make myself bikinis and had made about 10 by the time I was in Year 11.
I mostly sew my own clothes because I get a better fit and I never have to worry about seeing someone in the same outfit. I look at clothes in shops and on Instagram and get inspired to make similar items myself.
I live in Newcastle NSW and often travel to Sydney by train to buy fabric. My favourite shops are The Fabric Store, The Remnant Warehouse and Tessuti. Keep you finger on the pulse and know when fabric shops have their sales. Buy patterns when they are on sale. Explore sewing sites on Instagram for inspiration.
I cannot live without my sewing and embroidery machine and my self threading Babylock overlocker.
I enjoy the creativity of sewing. I love sewing for myself and sometimes for family members. I hate being asked to sew up hems and doing repairs for people.
